Cannabidiol (or CBD) is a phytochemical chemical compound found in plants that was discovered in 1940. It’s one of the latest favourites in alternative medicines and accounts for more than 40 percent of the therapeutic plant’s oil. While CBD has some similarities to THC, CBD doesn’t have the same positive effects of euphoria. CBD instead works to block certain immune cells from triggering certain cancer inflammations. However, in contrast to what many consider to be the advantages of CBD but we must remember that CBD remains a powerful compound and has toxic properties when too much is ingested.
It has been recognized for some time that CBD can be used as a replacement for alcohol in the management of anxiety disorders. The most recent research came from the lab of Michael J. Gerber at the University of Pittsburgh, where Gerber and his coworkers released their findings in the Journal of Human Evolution. The Pittsburgh lab has recently been used in the development of F.D.A. cannabidiol.
Gerber’s study revealed that “the key to our success was identifying the substances that provide us with the highest potency without any of the adverse effects that are common with CBD.” CBD was previously thought to be an intoxicant. It had little to no medical advantages. CBD is not an amino acids; it is a phytochemical that originates from the endocannabinoids in hemp, cannabis, and some different species of plants. These endocannabinoids are an natural antidepressant. Recent research conducted by John Hopkins University has confirmed that CBD is anti-inflammatory and can decrease seizures among children with epilepsy that is uncontrolled.
However, even though CBD is considered to be relatively safe, with occasional use with caution, there’s been no conclusive evidence regarding the health effects of CBD when used in conjunction with other medicinal drugs. The majority of studies of CBD and the active components have been conducted on animals that were fed a strict diet of CBD as well as other drugs. While there isn’t much information about CBD’s long-term toxicity for humans, there is evidence that CBD may be toxic in certain circumstances.
Recent reports from the US House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Power reveal that CBD may possess some psychoactive properties. The committee was especially interested in the effect of CBD on patients who were prescribed Dronabinone. an antiepileptic drug that is used to treat heroin addiction. The committee found that Dronabinol can be effective in reducing the desire to experience a high and the urge to take the same dose again to feel better. However the report didn’t make clear which other medications, if any, are utilized in conjunction with CBD to alleviate the pain of narcotics.
The evidence isn’t clear as to whether CBD can be as effective at relieving anxiety than illegal drugs like cannabis or as efficient as psychostimulants like Ritalin. CBD has a chemical structure that is almost identical to that of cannabis (cannabis, the sativa). This means that CBD likely has a lower impact on a person’s mental health than psychoactive drugs like cannabis. However, there are no reported adverse reactions to CBD for humans. CBD may be able to alleviate anxiety and/or chronic seizures in dogs, since epilepsy patients are treated using CBD. It could also have serotonergic properties that can reduce anxiety in humans. The CBD does not appear to have any effects on serotonin in humans.
There is some evidence that CBD could prove effective for treating marijuana use for recreational purposes and it has been found to have no side effects. The US government has not approved CBD for sale as a prescribed medication. But, CBD can be used by minors. Although hemp is grown in most parts of the USA, CBD tends to be found in the southern half of the country, in states like Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida. The production rates vary depending on the availability of industrial hemp. According to the hemp lobby, the federal government has not yet approved the cultivation of CBD as a medicine or for medical purposes.
While CBD doesn’t have the same mind-altering effects as THC however, it has been shown in some instances to lessen nausea. There is evidence that CBD might be able to aid in the treatment of anxiety and seizure disorders. The sole health benefit known of CBD, as mentioned above is the reduction in appetite that alcohol withdrawal causes. CBD is typically smoked instead of being ingested like THC and therefore, it is likely to have fewer side-effects than cannabis. However, since CBD lacks the same mind-altering, psychoactive properties that cannabis has and THC, it is a lower risk compared to smoking cannabis. It is still being researched to determine the full advantages of CBD in comparison to cannabis.
